Fossil Lodge |
|
The lodge was built in 1927 by William Steiwer, son of W.W. Steiwer. According to family stories, the craftsman-style home was designed by an architect and an identical house was built at Bend. The interior is constructed of rough-cut Douglas fir that was hauled to Fossil from the bride’s family saw mill in the Willamette valley. The unique house has a stone fireplace built from ancient volcanic tuff found locally. Solid wood doors are constructed of two massive planks. Oregon statesman Jack Steiwer, son of William and Dorothy, lived at the residence his entire life. The centrally located but secluded lodge was purchased in 2005 by the present owners of Bridge Creek Flora Inn. |
